Sure it's good to do without plastic bags, but do we have to buy something extra and do we have to advertise for a company?
Like hockey or football (soccer) supporters wearing team colours,
hoards of shoppers making their way the 100 feet to and from car to
supermarket carrying these nasty new addictions seem oblivious to the
minute tokenism of their actions.

Firstly, if you drove to and from the mall, shopping centre or farmers market, any savings in CO2 are wiped out in a split second.

Secondly, where did the just purchased contents of your 'green' bag come from? Snow peas air freighted from China? Strawberries in January? Wine from Australia? What difference does your cloth bag make to these real addictions of blindness?
Thirdly, if you want a cloth bag why buy one? Can't you sew up an old T-shirt, and add two handles? And where is that cloth bag made? Probably imported from invisible slaves in China, with little labour protection and even fewer environmental safeguards.

Fourthly, don't you own a goddamn backpack? Better for your back (especially when used correctly with a waist band and adjusted so no weight touches the shoulders) and better for our environment. Just chuck all you purchases into the backpack and you are off. In the GOD (good old days) a visit to the greengrocers never included any separating bags between the different fruit and vegetables; an occasional sheet of newspaper would be rolled around a delicate item.
Of course you invested good money in a well made canvas and leather model, made by people who care about their craft. That's a logo to be proud of displaying.
